Medical Orthopedic TechnicianEnjoy over 350 days of sunshine a year! The community of Tucson, AZ is home to the University of Arizona. It is the second largest city in Arizona, with a population of approximately 550,000. Tucson is the second most-populated city in Arizona behind Phoenix, both of which anchor the Arizona Sun Corridor. The city is 108 miles southeast of Phoenix and 60 mi north of the U.S.–Mexico border. Tucson is the 33rd largest city and the 58th largest metropolitan area in the United States (2014). Major incorporated suburbs of Tucson include Oro Valley and Marana northwest of the city, Sahuarita south of the city, and South Tucson in an enclave south of downtown. Communities in the vicinity of Tucson (some within or overlapping the city limits) include Casas Adobes, Catalina Foothills, Flowing Wells, Midvale Park, Tanque Verde, Tortolita, and Vail. Towns outside the Tucson metro area include Benson to the southeast, Catalina and Oracle to the north, and Green Valley to the south. Much of Tucson's economic development has centered on the development of the University of Arizona, which is the city's largest employer. Davis-Monthan Air Force Base, on the city's southeastern edge, also provides many jobs for Tucson residents. Its presence, as well as the presence of the US Army Intelligence Center (Fort Huachuca, the region's largest employer, in nearby Sierra Vista), has led to the development of many high-tech industries, including government contractors. The city of Tucson is also a major hub for the Union Pacific Railroad's Sunset Route that links the Los Angeles ports with the South/Southeast regions of the country. Raytheon Missiles and Defense, Texas Instruments, IBM, Intuit Inc., Universal Avionics, Client Aerospace, Sunquest Information Systems, Ventana Medical Systems, Inc., and Bombardier Aerospace all have a large presence in Tucson. Roughly 150 Tucson companies are involved in the design and manufacture of optics and optoelectronics systems, earning Tucson the nickname "Optics Valley". Much of this comes from the Steward Observatory at The University of Arizona, which is one of few locations in the world that can cast the enormous mirrors used in telescopes around the world and in space.Located in the heart of Tucson, Arizona, Davis-Monthan Air Force Base is home to 11,000 airmen from 34 unique mission partners, which support four combatant commanders around the globe every day. Over the years, Davis-Monthan AFB has earned a proud history of distinction and most recently was awarded the 2018 commander and chief's installation excellence award as the best base in the air force. The 355th wing is the host unit for the installation in addition to its primary mission of deploying, employing and sustaining combat search and rescue and attack air power in support of combatant commanders anywhere in the world. Additionally, Davis-Monthan AFB is home to 12th air force, the 309th aerospace maintenance and regeneration group, the 55th electronic combat group, the 214th attack group of the arizona air national guard, 943rd rescue group of the air force reserve, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection among many others. The base and the city of Tucson grew and thrived together over the years. As the third-largest employer in the area, the more than 46,000 men and women that makeup Davis-Monthan AFB contribute more than $2.6 billion to the local economy annually.Responsibilities:Screen, check-in, and escort patients to treatment areas.Accurately prepare room & patient for examinations, therapeutic measures and procedures ensuring all needed equipment and supplies are available prior to the start of the exam.Take, monitor and record physiological measurements.Triage urgent needs.Assist with medical treatment, diagnostic and therapeutic procedures per treatment protocols.Prepare and administer medications under the supervision of a nurse or health care provider.Chaperone patients.Assemble, maintain, and operate medical, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment.Maintain or assist with appropriate and accurate health record storage and retrieval systems.Provide patient/parent education as requested.Perform or assist with the performance of specialized testing and examinations (i.e. ekg/Intra-compartment test).Assist with routine and emergency orthopedic procedures.Upon completion of procedures and examinations, properly clean and organize room and perform any necessary cleaning of equipment as established by departmental policies and procedures and standards. The technician shall be primarily required to perform orthopedic services.
